The Benefactor Service Associate is the important front-line service representative within the Department of Development, serving as Development’s on-campus and virtual resource for patients, prospects, benefactors and colleagues. The Associate serves as a critical first point of contact for patients, prospects and benefactors who make in-person inquires, or engage through direct mail, ePhilanthropy, phone calls and/or written correspondence. The Associate will serve as the "on-call” on-campus resource during business hours responding to the full scope of inquiries, including face-to-face meetings with individuals.

During benefactor-facing interactions, the Associate will qualify and assess major gift potential and triage to Prospect Management to maximize philanthropy. The Associate will build relationships with prospects and benefactors to support and contribute to Mayo Clinic’s strategic and essential fundraising priorities. The Associate will work with their supervisor and BSA team to develop fundraising strategies and assess their effectiveness toward the Mayo Clinic strategic priorities. The Associate will provide campus tours inclusive of recognition spaces and will assist fundraisers in meeting and navigating benefactors when the primary relationship manager is unavailable. Additional responsibilities include face-to-face, telephone, email and written interaction with prospects and benefactors to express gratitude, confirm event attendance, stewardship and personal communication for birthdays and anniversaries. They will be most closely aligned to the Annual/Mid-Level Giving program, Prospect Management, Office of Gift Planning, and Central Region fundraising.

The role requires significant focus on responding to and directing inquiries, appropriately meeting the needs of each patient, prospect, or benefactor. The Associate must have demonstrated experience showing one’s adaptability, flexibility, and agile mindset for change. The Associate needs to possess a high level of proficiency and knowledge of strategic funding priorities in order to align benefactor interest with Mayo Clinic strategic priorities, as well as the ability to translate scientific knowledge for a lay audience.

The Associate will model behaviors after supervisor, peers, and team members. They will learn from conversations with mentors, clarifying understanding through questions about application of the Mayo Clinic values to benefactor-centric fundraising practices. The Associate will adopt a continuous learning mindset, addressing learning opportunities with supervisor, mentors, and peers, and actively participating in equity, inclusion and diversity initiatives. They will support activities that foster an inclusive environment. Development professionals at Mayo Clinic are required to adhere to the "Donor Bill of Rights" and ethical standards set forth for the department and the institution. Requires a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years' experience to include one or more of the following: annual fund, special events, stewardship of benefactors and/or customers/clients, marketing and communications. Incumbent must be a self-motivated, self-directed and highly organized individual who will promote a productive, collegial workplace and be a professional ambassador for Mayo Clinic. The associate must be able to work effectively in a consensus-style operation that expects and promotes teamwork. Belief in the mission and strong ethical conduct is essential. Requires excellent oral and written communications skills, a broad-based knowledge of fund development and the ability to work in a complex environment with multi-dimensional points of view. Must be comfortable with ambiguity, possess the ability to inspire trust and confidence, and communicate effectively with internal and external audiences. The ability to work independently, manage multiple projects and maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality is essential. Must be proficient in the use of information technology and
management of database systems. Some travel is required, primarily within driving distance. A valid driver’s license is required.
